At first light on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the bomber made a low-level strike, bombing the heavy coastal gun emplacements at Arromanches in Northern France from just 1,500 feet, a spectacular and exceptionally dangerous mission.
This print shows the Lancaster bomber returning to its base in Colerne. Within a week the bomber would be shot down by a Luftwaffe Ju88 night fighter and Mynarski would lose his life trying to save a trapped crewmen.
