United States Army Air Force Combat Series

“The great British fighter ace Johnnie Johnson wrote: ‘There were many outstanding American fighter pilots… the Navy and Marine pilots that fought the Pacific battles were among the bravest and most determined of WWII’. Although my WWII air combat experience was in the European Theater, I endorse that view”

Brigadier General Robin Olds, March, 1984

Distinguished Flying Cross Edition

"Colonel James Goodson USAAF, DSC, SS, DFC & Lieutenant Colonel Robert Johnson USAAF, DSC, SS, DFC"

TWO of the most highly decorated fighter pilots of the ETO – Jim Goodson who flew operationally with the RAF, Eagle Squadrons and the USAAF almost throughout the entire war teams up with Robert Johnson, one of the stars in Hub Zemke’s 56 Fighter Group ‘Wolfpack’.

Goodson, having joined the redoubtable 4th Fighter Group, and Johnson flying with Zemke’s Wolfpack – the crack 56 FG outfit – both piloted the formidable P-47 Thunderbolt during the USAAF’s strenuous air fighting, escorting heavy bombers deep into German territory. Virtually every raid was intercepted by the Luftwaffe’s determined Me109 and Fw190 fighters. Robert Johnson achieved an incredible 28 aerial victories in the space of just 12 months combat in Europe.

The Print:

Thunder Force by Darryl Legg

The Medal:

BACKGROUND, PROVENANCE & AUTHENTICITY

Each autograph was personally collected in the early 1980s by Mr Pat Barnard, who had founded the Military Gallery during the 1970's. These original signatures formed part of a project supported by Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC, Air Vice Marshal Johnnie Johnson, Brigadier General Robin Olds and General Adolf Galland, all of whom advised and helped Mr Barnard collect the signatures.

Every Autograph (signature) offered by the publisher with this series of "Ensembles" is guaranteed to be original and genuine. Our reputation depends upon our integrity: We do not buy signatures from outside sources where it is often difficult to ascertain authenticity. We have the undisputed provenance for each signature which means that every Certificate of Authenticity supplied by the publisher is as genuine as the signatures it supports.

The Certificate of Authenticity supplied with each original autograph is authorised by the publisher, therefore making the Certificate a valuable document in itself. To counter the proliferation of forged signatures in the market today, and to guarantee the genuine nature of your investment, please keep your Certificate safe and secure. It will ensure there can never be any doubt as to the value of your collection in years to come.
