A very rare 1957, 1st Edition.
This well written autobiography tells the story of wartime hero, Sir Basil Embry, from his early days growing up and as a young Pilot Officer in Iraq and India before being recalled back home to the UK at the outbreak of World War Two. As his story unfolds the reader is taken on amazing journey through his wartime years, his escapes as a POW and the many daring missions flying twin engined fighter bombers like the Blenheim and Mosquito from 1940 until 1945. His book contains the enthusiasm and passion for flying which represents not only a record of a wartime RAF pilot and leader of men, but also a vivid account of war in the air. One of the best accounts of aerial warfare from one of the most highly decorated RAF veterans in World War Two.
This rare edition contains an original publisher plate mounted onto the front title page and personally signed by; Air Chief Marshall Sir Basil Embry GCB, KBE, DSO***, DFC, AFC
NOTE: For a book over 60 years old, it is in very good condition. It still has the original jacket cover which has no serious rips or tears but the expected creases along the edges and spine. Overall it's a wonderful edition and highly collectable. Availability
