PEENEMUNDE

One of the most dramatic paintings showing the attack on Peenemunde by RAF Bomber Command.

On the night of August 17th, 1943, and into the morning of the 18th, 597 bombers of the RAF roared across the moonlit skies along the Baltic coast. Swept by spotlights, attacked by anti-aircraft fire and harrassed by Luftwaffe Night-Fighters, the Bomber Command formation concentrated on the target below as depicted in Peenemunde. Their mission - Destroy the Nazi "V" Weapons.
