A stunning painting, by Stephen Brown, commemorating the iconic Douglas DC-3. The painting depicts a Pan American Airlines Douglas DC-3 over the Rockies. This particular aircraft, N877MG, was built in 1944 and entered service as a military version, a C47B. She started operations with the China National Aviation Corporation which was then part owned by Pan American Airways. In her early days she undertook many hazardous operations flying over the ‘Hump’ - an important but challenging route over the Himalayas between India and China. After changing hands several times over the years she was eventually purchased by Jonson and Johnson when she was reconfigured to 1940s civilian airliner specification including luxury interior. She was later acquired by the Historic Flight Foundation and over a six year period was fully restored to airworthy condition and finished off in a striking 1940s period traditional Pan American blue and silver livery.
